Our Messenger Bags are loved by women, men and teens.

The reasons : the shape of the Messenger Bag is boxy (for men the bag look more masculine)

                     they can carry all their necessities with them - cellphone, purse, ID and, what is most important these days,  their i-Pads or tablets. There is a separate pocket in the Messenger Bag for the i-Pad or tablet.

For women we make the bags with a more feminine flavor - a beautiful picture on the flap from the coffee sack together with a beautiful ShweShwe lining or we can cobine the coffee sack on the flap with Patchwork with ShweShwe. Some men are happy with a Messenger Bag as long as it look more masculine like our Messenger Bag with the body out of Camo material.

For teens the Messenger Bags work well - teens need their own bag to carry their stuff around. The Camo again work for the boys because it doesn't look girly. The boys also love our Messenger Bags out of Feed Sack.

Kayla Cross Body Bag

 Kayla Cross Body Bag.

During August 2012 I showed you a Cross Body Bag I made from a recycled coffee sack. That bag was to big for me (I prefer smaller bags).

 I kept the pattern in my collection and the other day I took it out and start re-designing again. I came up with a smaller cross body bag that is just big enough for me. The bags got new names also - Kayla Large Cross-body bag and Kayla Small Cross-body bag. Maybe I will make a few to sell.

The dimensions of the Kayla Large Cross Body Bag are:

Height -36 cm

Width - 40 cm

Depth - 9 cm

Strap - 104 cm

I also put a little flap as closure to the bag. This little flap has Velcro on.

The bag is fully lined and there are inside pockets for my cellphone, pen, etc and an i-Pad pocket ( I don't have an i-Pad, but one day I will use the pocket - for now my notebook{paper} and fold up Tote are stored in there).

Fold up Tote with it's own pouch.

 I made a fold up tote - first to stop the collection of plastic bags and second to always have a handy tote (for shopping) with me.

This Tote has a separate pouch - a convenient way to carry a tote in your handbag for buying bread, etc. 

The tote isn't lined and for the first time I learned to sew French seams. In the beginning it feels strange, but now I am used to it. I started with curtain material, but now I am going to make them from ShweShwe material. Some photos:

The dimensions of this tote: Bottom - 10 cm (boxed corners), Height - Top to bottom -34,5 cm, With - 39,5 cm, Handles - 2 handles of 38 cm each. Pouch of this Tote : Width - 15 cm, Height - 21,5 cm (I am going to make the pouch a little bit smaller in height).

The Gaia Messenger Bag is the new Messenger Bag that we are going to make.

I promised a photo of the new Gaia Messenger Bag. Here it is - we made two bags for the shop ( I really hope the people like the bags).

We made this two Gaia Messenger Bags from denim and coffee sack, but we can make the bags out of other fabric also for example Upholstery fabric.

We will also make this bag out of other material, for example upholstry material.

During October 2010 I started sewing Messenger Bags and was thinking about the possibility to make a new business out of it. I made the Man Bag, a Medium messenger bag and the Gaia Messenger Bag.

This Messenger Bag is an in between size and more a lady's bag.

 I took the pattern from the shelf and is busy to review this pattern. The finished new Gaia Messenger Bag - I made this one with Denim and Coffee Sack.

Since I started with the sewing of Ponchos and Capes I learned a lot - thanks to the Internet. My advice is that if you want to do something such as sewing you must always be prepared to learn.  I don't think any sewer can say that she knows everything about sewing and therefor sewers are always learning from other sewers. It is so satisfying when you can see your own improvement.
During 2009 I started with the sewing of Ponchos with hoods. A few months later I started sewing Ponchos with collars. During the months that followed I started sewing Opera Capes with collars and then I learned about the Circular Cape and Semi Circular Cape.


The sales of the Ponchos and Capes are going well so the styles that I am going to sew are:

This Small Messenger Bag or Man Bag is make out of a malt bag - the malt is used in the brewery of beer and is imported from Germany.

This Mini Tote is just big enough to carry 6 beers in. This bag is also made out of a malt bag.

We are now sewing Denim and coffee sack Messenger Bag.

Just a reminder why the Small Messenger Bag is also known as the Man Bag: the size is right for the men and the bags are manly - it doesn't look girly at all, except when we sew it with women in mind like the Small Messenger Bag with a patchwork flap or the whole bag out of Upholstery fabric.

In a previous post I mentioned that I want to combine denim and coffee sack. This is  not only for something different, but the Denim will make the Messenger Bag a lot stronger (it will last longer)  especially if you want to carry the Bag everyday.
